(15/Dec/2002)

TOLERÂNCIA (TOLERANCE), a Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre film, directed by Carlos Gerbase, won the "Popularity Award" at the 24th International Festival of New Latin-American Film, which ended on December 13th. Released in Brazil in 2000, TOLERANCE was not even in the main competition, but when it was shown in the screenings of the Latin-American Panorama, Cuban audiences voted it the best film in the Festival.

The second favourite of the audience at the Havana Festival was the Spanish film "Apasionados", by Juan José Jusid. In third place came the Mexican movie "El Crimen del Padre Amaro", by Carlos Carrera. Another Brazilian highlight was "Cidade de Deus", by Fernando Meirelles, which won several awards from the official jury and came 7th in the audience's preference.
