THE MAN WHO COPIED wins award in Cuba
(12/Dec/2003)

Lázaro Ramos, the protagonist of THE MAN WHO COPIED (a production of the Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre) was voted best actor at the 25th Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, held in Havana, Cuba, from the 2nd to the 12th of December. This is the third consecutive year that the Coral Prize for Best Actor is awarded to a Brazilian: Selton Mello was the winner in 2001 for his work in "Lavoura Arcaica" and last year the prize was shared among the male cast of "City of God".

Other Brazilian films also won important awards in Cuba this year: "Carandiru" won the Special Jury Prize and several alternative awards, including the OCIC jury award and the coveted Popularity Award (which in 2002 was given to TOLERANCE, another production of the Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre); "Ônibus 174" shared the Best Documentary prize, "Amarelo Manga" won Best Photography and the Opera Prima Award for best film by a newcomer director, "O Homem do ano" won Best Art Director.
