MEU TIO MATOU UM CARA (My Uncle Killed a Guy) wins Screenplay and Director awards in Miami

MEU TIO MATOU UM CARA (My Uncle Killed a Guy), a Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre production, won two Crystal Lens awards at the Ninth Brazilian Film Festival of Miami, which ended this Sunday: Best director for Jorge Furtado and Best Screenplay for Furtado and Guel Arraes.

 "Cazuza – O Tempo Não Pára", directed by Sandra Werneck and Walter Carvalho, won Best Movie. The festival, which had 14 feature films and 12 shorts running for the awards, also gave awards to Daniel Oliveira for Best Actor for "Cazuza" and Marieta Severo for Best Actress for "A Dona da História" (The Owner of the Story). "Bens Confiscados" (Confiscated Goods), by Carlos Reinchenbach, won Best Cinematography; "Redentor", by Cláudio Torres, won Best Film Editing and Best Art Direction; and "Quase Dois Irmãos", by Lucia Murat, was awarded for Best Sound Editing & Mixing. The Best Movie Public Prize was awarded to Daniel Filho, for "A Dona da História".

The jury consisted of: Carla Camurati, Brazilian actress and director; Marcelo Coltro, Vice-President of Latin American Sales for MGM; Patricia Boero, director for transnational programs for HIP (Hispanics in Philanthropy); Michael Ellenbogen, American producer and programmer; Jimmy Leroy, Director of Creation for Nickelodeon Latin America; Paul Rauch, American Executive Producer; and Israela Margalit, TV and movie writer.

The festival also chose "O Retrato do Artista", by Hugo Moss, as Best Short Film. For the public, the best short was "O Xadrez das Cores, by Marco Schiavon. "Capital Circulante" (director) and "Mamãe tá na Geladeira" (cinematography) were also awarded. The festival had 30 thousand spectators, a new record for the event.
