It is much more difficult to be tolerant than to be free.

The film “Tolerance”, released in November 2000, is the first feature film produced by Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre – the producer of winners of several international awards (“Island of Flowers” – Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival 1990, “3 Minutes” – Official Competition of the Cannes Film Festival 2000) – and directed by Carlos Gerbase, screenwriter for films (“Inverno" - Winter, “Deus Ex-Machina”) and television (“Memorial de Maria Moura”, “Engraçadinha”, “Luna Caliente”) and co-producer of “Verdes Anos", one of the greatest hits of the cinema of Rio Grande do Sul.

“Tolerance”, co-produced and distributed by Columbia Tristar Filmes do Brasil, was shot in Rio Grande do Sul, in 1999, and is starred by nationally acclaimed actors Maitê Proença and Roberto Bomtempo; experienced local actors, like Werner Schünemann ("Netto Perde Sua Alma”) and Nelson Diniz (“Paulo e Ana Luiza em Porto Alegre”), and by talented young newcomers Maria Ribeiro (“Separações”, by Domingos de Oliveira), Ana Maria Mainieri and Márcio Kieling (“Malhação”).

The screenplay of “Tolerance” was written by Carlos Gerbase, Jorge Furtado (“Island of Flowers”, “The Day Dorival Faced the Guard”, “Barbosa”), Giba Assis Brasil (“Agosto”) and Álvaro Teixeira (“Verdes Anos”). Some of the most talented professionals of the Rio Grande do Sul cinema are in the crew, like Alex Sernambi (cinematographer), Giba Assis Brasil (editor) and Fiapo Barth (art direction), along with experienced professionals from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, like José Luís Sasso (sound mixer), Juarez Dagoberto (sound), and Luiz Abrahmo (camera operator).

The musical score for “Tolerance” was conceived by Carlos Gerbase (of the band “Os Replicantes”), Flávio Santos (Flu, with a recently released record by the recording company Trama) and Marcelo Fornazier (“4Nazzo, of the group “De Falla”), and it combines a significant sample of the work of local rock bands, singers and composers and several songs specially written for the film by the duo Flu and 4Nazzo. Among the artists are Nei Lisboa, Júlio Reny, Dolly, Foo Wang Fu, Os Argonautas, Os Replicantes, Wander Wildner, Os The Dharma Lovers, Régis San, Tom Bloch, Les Johnson, Júpiter Apple, Zzona, Irmãos Rocha, Space Rave and Ex-Machina.
