ABOUT “TOLERANCE”A long time ago, in the time of our grandparents, fidelity was the foundation of marriage. Infidelity was often revenged with a crime of passion.
Not so long ago, in the time of our parents, fidelity was still the foundation of marriage. But the consequence of infidelity was no longer a crime, but separation.
Now, it is Júlio and Márcia’s time, and they decided that fidelity would not be the foundation of their marriage. No crimes of passion, no irrational arguments, no divorce. All Júlio and Márcia want is to love each other, raise their daughter, Guida, and remain free. It all works very well. In theory.
Up until the moment when Márcia, a lawyer, puts theory into practice and sleeps with Teodoro, her client, a small farmer accused of murder. She knows it may put her marriage at risk, but she decides to take the risk.
Júlio, a photographer, has difficulty accepting his wife’s freedom, but in Anamaria, his daughter’s friend, he finds his chance to be free too. He knows he is taking a risk, but he decides to face it.
But Anamaria has her own theories about freedom. And she is willing to put them to the test, in practice.
Everyone wants to be free, but to be free everyone needs to be tolerant.
And it is much more difficult to be tolerant than to be free.
